Under the Microscope

Carbon Tracker takes a closer look at the climate risk disclosures of the eight largest oil and gas companies: BP, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, ENI, Exxon Mobil, Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil and Total.

The paper identifies Carbon Tracker’s approach to analysing companies’ 2°C scenario analyses across a consistent set of themes. The four themes analysed are:

1. 2°C scenario modelling
2. Scenario outputs
3. Market risk
4. Carbon pricing

This table gives a high-level overview of the relative performance of each company across the four themes. It reveals that progress is being made but a large gap remains in company consideration of the potential business impacts.

The research was picked up by Platts, which reports that there is increasing "pressure on the sector to standardize its reporting on climate risk exposure."
